Serving the Community: How Harrison Clarke Supports People Beyond Surveying

As surveyors, our work goes far beyond inspecting buildings and producing reports. At Harrison Clarke, we are a team of experienced professionals that understand that every instruction we receive relates to someone’s home, business or investment. Serving the community is an important part of how we operate as a business. This is one reason why we produce so much video content which is easily accessible on our website and YouTube channel.

Sharing Knowledge Through Educational Content

We regularly produce video content for our website and social media channel. These videos provide expert advice on all thing’s property and construction matters.

Alongside this, we deliver Continuing Professional Development (CPD) sessions to other professionals in the construction industry. For example, our Party Wall Surveyors may deliver CPD sessions to Architects on key issues within the Party Wall process. These sessions can be delivered in person or online.

Why Professional Advice is not Always Accessible

CPD sessions and online content are a great starting point. Unfortunately, a drawback is that they cannot replace professional advice tailored to an individual property.

Every building is different, and many issues will require a detailed inspection and professional analysis along with advice. However, we understand that using a professional building surveyor is not always in everyone’s budget. We acknowledge this reality and appreciate that not everyone has the funds to instruct a highly qualified surveyor when they need help.

Offering Pro Bono Surveying Support

To address this, Harrison Clarke created a system where our team members can offer a set amount of pro bono work each year, meaning that time spent on instructions is free of charge for some clients. In doing this, it allows us to better serve the community by offering property advice and information that is accessible to our community, regardless of means.

Typical clients this might include:

Charity organisations occupying commercial premises.
Social housing tenants struggling to resolve building disrepair issues with their landlord.
Community groups managing local buildings or facilities.

While we cannot assist every request, we will always try and help where we can. In some cases, we may offer full pro bono work, while sometimes we may offer reduced fees rather than providing a 100% funded solution.

Supporting Clients Through a Professional Process

Don’t worry, even when providing pro bono work or reduced fee jobs, we will still operate in the same manner as we would with any other client.

If we determine we’re a good fit, we’ll support you just as we do our fee-paying clients. We will clear terms of business before work begins. Therefore, both parties will understand each other’s expectations.

Sometimes this might involve:

An agreed number of hours, as we are a time-based service business.
Setting out the remit of the instruction.

Please don’t be nervous by this formality, especially if this process is unfamiliar to you, our team is friendly and always keen to assist.

Supporting Charitable and Community Projects

In our commitment to creating positive social impact within our local communities, Harrison Clarke also gets involved with voluntary charitable projects.

We understand that our knowledge and expertise have come from many years of studying and support from others. Which is why we are all keen to give back. As a result, if you have any opportunities where our team could get involved in, whether it’s community initiatives or building related projects. We are always happy to hear about them.

Also, we love taking part in sponsored events. By not having a chosen charity, we have been able to support several amazing charities over the last few months.
